How Can I Find Housing/treatment to Help Son? (Violent/suicidal Delusions, Hallucinations, ? Drug Withdrawal?)?

Question by Breeze: How can I find housing/treatment to help son? (violent/suicidal delusions, hallucinations, ? drug withdrawal?)?
I need long term rehabilitation & then appropriate housing. He should not live alone & he won’t be able to live with me.

We are in East Tennessee. I am looking for quality effective treatment.

see your doctor he or she should have the relevant information for your sons needs

yep the referall should come from the Doctor currently treating him. If he’s in a hospital right now you should ask to talk to a Social Worker on staff to make plans for his long term care options after discharge from the hospital.

The ideal treatment facility will be different if he:
a) is withdrawing from street drugs AND has a co-occuring Mental Illness like Schizophrenia. or
b) is just withdrawing from drugs and the delusions are a side-affect of the withdrawal.

His age will also have come into play when choosing a long term care facility. If he is a teen/early 20’s vs. an Adult.

If possible do some of your own online research. The Doctor’s and caseworkers who you will be working with are often overworked and pass patients off to whoever is willing to treat them even if it is not the best option for your son. You have to be on top of things in order to fight with these workers to advocate for your son. Otherwise they may walk all over you.

Some cities have helplines specifically for mental health issues. (ex, in San Diego we dial #211) Look online for your nearest big cities and see if they have one of these helplines- they will give you advice on how to navigate your local health facilities.

The facility you choose will also be dependant on what your son’s health insurance plan will cover. Look on his health insurance card and see if there is a website on helpline for behavioral health, mental health, or drug recovery etc.

Some keywords for you to search: long term inpatient treatment, Behavioral Center, Rehabilitation Facilites

Good Luck 😀
