How Come People on Government Assistance Are Not Subject to a Drug Test Before and While Receiving Benefits?

Question by : How come people on government assistance are not subject to a drug test before and while receiving benefits?
Our tax dollars are paying for a lot of people’s drug addictions. I know here in California, most people on welfare are also on some type of drug abuse. They will take the General Relief money and Food Stamps and feed their drug habit instead of the kids. I believe they should all be subject to drug testing to receive benefits from our tax money and continue with unannounced drug testing to continue to receive payments. We the tax payers have a right to where the money is going.

I think it’d be a lot cheaper and easier to 1) get rid of welfare, especially long-term welfare, and 2) make drugs legal.

  • Easy, later tonight my rm. says:

I think WI just got tougher. WI has a good gov. currently, and he’s hated by the socialists. The socialist left think Government is infringing on the rights of the poor if they have to produce an ID or get a drug test. Idiots!

I agree with the first guy as well. Legalize them all for the sake of freedom.

    Ok a couple of points:

    1) You say, “most people on welfare are also on some kind of drug abuse.” How do you know this? You work for the government and have the statistics at hand? ESP?

    2) This point is the most important. You do realize if they start drug testing all people on government assistance that this effort will cost a lot of money and possibly will create a whole new level of bureaucracy? This effort will probably increase the number of judges, jails, jail guards, wardens, prisons, etc. Additionally, drug testing and keeping the statistics, paperwork, etc. is another set of costs. So, in light of all the added expense, what will you be saving?

  • dfreed7 says:

oxycontin is nowhere near 20 times more potent than vicodin. milligram for milligram, oxycodone is about 3-4 times stronger than hydrocodone. Also, oxycodone comes in MUCH? larger doses than hydrocodone. The largest oxy is 160 mg and the largest hyrdo is 10 mg…..

There’s more to it than drug commercials. Getting high is a normal desire. People do drugs for the same reasons they get on amusement park rides or have sex,? it’s a sensation. Kids doing drugs is a very alarming problem without question. But it’s not hard to understand why people want to get high. We live in a high pressure high stress world. Is it any wonder people want to escape reality ?

  • ingosnow25 says:
