My father was an alcoholic. Growing up I hated alcohol and couldn’t stand to be around it. After a couple of years at college, I ended up becoming an alcoholic myself. I came home to visit my family for the summer and got in a very bad fight with my father and both of us were drunk at the time. We were arguing over who drank the last of the scotch. The whole argument was over me telling him that he needed to stop drinking. Although I don’t really remember anything, my mother told me how it started. After he broke my nose and I bit off his finger, the dispute caused a neighbor to call the police and we both ended up in jail for domestic disturbance. Right after that, my mother convinced me and my dad to get treatment. At the time I didn’t have any insurance at all. She gave me a number to call that truly changed my life. The counselor I talked to on the phone was able to help me find assistance for a program that changed my life and made me the successful person that I am today. In fact, after my father saw the change in me, he eventually called and we have both been sober for more than 3 years now. Whenever I come across someone who needs help like I needed, I always call my mom for the number she keeps in her little book. After reading your post and others like yours, I call her for the number. I hope that by giving you this number, not only will it help you but hopefully others that may read this post. The number is 877-283-3797. After you call the number and things start improving, please blog or post back to let others know that there is help out there, and that you really can overcome your addiction. And I bet once you’re clean and sober, you will also blog or post this number and help someone else in need. I wish you the best. -J.P.
