Will a Doctor Review a Prescription From Another Doctor and Fill It?
Question by Keira: Will a doctor review a prescription from another doctor and fill it?
I have a prescription for Adderall and Phentermine from my doctor in Arizona. I now live in California and I have a written prescription from my Az doctor. My problem is, since adderall is considered a schedule II drug, most pharmacies in Cali won’t fill my prescription since it’s written by an out of state doctor. Since I no longer have medical I would hate to pay a lot see a doctor for him to tell me that he will not rewrite a new prescription for me out here.
Does anybody know if I do go see a doctor and show him my two written prescriptions, tell him my history, will he be more inclined to write me a new prescription? I am not a drug abuser and have only actually recently gotten on adderall and phentermine within the past few months after discussing my concentration problem with my previous doctor. I know California has stricter laws and is less inclined to give anyone adderall, which is what I’m concerned about.
Will a Cali doctor make me see a psychiatrist? I live San Jose.

It depends on the doctor. They need to examine and diagnose you themselves. Your doctor in AZ can send your files to the new one. Still, they will want to make their own decision.
You should be seeing a psychiatrist anyway since they are trained to dispense these medications for the reasons you are taking them. They are the most qualified to handle your case rather than a general doc.

It depends a general practitioner may give you a one time refill, just because. However I seriously doubt If they will continue to prescribe psychiatric medications until after you have seen a psychiatrist.
a plus would have been if you had brought your medical records with you. Have them faxed to you from AZ.
