This is a follow up to my previous questionnaire about our dependency on oil which others don’t think has anything to do with our present condition. You know I find most Filipinos or those who call themselves Filipino if they do knows what they are practically talking about. One even wrote Japan has no oil but has a great economy. You actually compare us with Japanese(?), my goodness. We should be compared to Burma or Laos only not to a G-8 country such as Japan. For one Japan has the most widely invented gadget ever used in the world isn’t it? From cars to washing machine to computer components etc. and the list goes on and on ’til the break of dawn. Is there a device that comes from the Philippines and was invented by a Filipino? So what is it? None. So don’t impress me because there is no known device ever invented by a Filipino that circulated all around the globe and is widely used by almost everyone now a days.

So here I go again, asking if science and technology the key to our progress? I know for sure everyone will not agree on this. Knowing Filipino mentality always opposes it is not really surprising we are a 3rd world country until now. We are not inventors in the true sense of the world. If you will look at history most inventors are Germans/British/Italians and American-Jewish. The list didn’t include Filipinos, is there? Why? Because the government hardly give emphasis on their creation or invention. To me the government prospective of Filipino inventors are just garbage collectors. Which is so sad. Look at the most ask questions here at the Philippines section, if not for a mere translation, one will ask for direction, one will ask for cream or a paste etc. so trivial. Kokonti lang ang nagtatanong na medyo makakapagisip ka saglit at oo nga noh! Filipinos are not visionaries unlike Germans or Italian scientist in the early centuries. We must produce more scientist. But the only thing we produce more are Filipino babies, bec. we are now coming to almost 100 million this year 2010. But nobody cares of course. Filipino pah. So what do you think? I think those who will disagree are 10 and agree 1 or 2 only. I am a visionary.
There is one story about a Filipino who design the Apollo space walk on the moon several years ago because he is connected with NASA at that time. He is a designer not an inventor is it not? As the famous line of JFK” I see things as they are and say why, but…I dream of things that never were and say why not…” We are merely consumers but sellers. We buy other products from other countries like Japan or European countries why not if we reverse the trend, we are now producing important or valuable things and other countries buy from us. Don’t you think it will ever happen in our case? Don’t insert that word “corruption” again. I am tired of it. Can’t we not change?
